If you had a teenage boy cousin who listened to really terrible screamo (like this) and you wanted to make him a CD of good ol' fashioned 90s grunge/I-hate-my-life music, that would be much more fulfilling for him than any of that crap, if I can force him to actually listen to it, what would you put on it? I've got so far:
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Hole - Doll Parts
Radiohead - Creep
I'm also thinking some Metallica, Pearl Jam, I dunno... SUBMIT IDEAS.
Theres a mix tooley and I made sophomore year called Kevinity. I think you should give him that.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about early 90's grunge, but I could suggest some better hardcore/grind bands.
ReplyDeleteI have seen many things, but in my lifetime there have been three events which changed my life forever:
ReplyDelete1. After millions of dollars and years of hard work, scientists finally managed to combine peanut butter and jelly in a single jar. A staple food of the American diet was never the same.
2. David Hasselhoff single-handedly tore down the Berlin Wall.
3. My ears were serenaded with the sweet, sweet sounds of "Kevinity"; arguably the best album ever...EVER. Numerous music critics heard the album before it was printed and they predicted that if it was released it would revolutionize the way people listened to music. The music industry would collapse, no artist could ever compete with it's absolute "brilliance", and overnight thousands of musicians would be put out of a job.
I'm not sure if this was 90s, but:
ReplyDeletePapa Roach - My Last Resort
Also (a pretty long list, not sure if they would all qualify),
Weezer - Say It Ain't So
Foo Fighters - I'll Stick Around
Oasis - Wonderwall
Filter - Hey Man, Nice Shot
Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song
Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy
Live - Selling the Drama
Smashing Pumpkins - Today
Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box
Cake - Never There
Spacehog - Space Is the Place
Weezer - Undone (The Sweater Song)
Green Day - She
The Offspring - Gone Away
Sublime - Burritos
Live - I Alone
Death Cab For Cutie - The Face That Launched 1000 Shits
New Order - Regret
Live - Lightning Crashes
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Soul Asylum - Somebody To Shove
Soul Asylum - Misery
Toad The Wet Sprocket -Something's Always Wrong
Everclear - Santa Monica
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get
Stabbing Westward - Save Yourself
Staind - Mudshovel
Anything by Nickelback. I think that qualifies because every time I listen to them on the radio I want to slit my wrists.
ReplyDeleteKyle, that list is taking me back.
ReplyDeleteOh don't forget to add anything sung by Cory Campbell. Someone needs to sign that dude to a label.
